Philosophy and Approach

I understand therapy to be an unhurried, sacred process of discovery, healing, and growth that leads to greater flourishing. As a therapist, it is my honor to walk alongside you as you explore where you have been and the hope-filled places you are going. I will provide a non-judgmental space for you to experience healing, progress in your goals, and journey more deeply into the life you hope for and the person you desire to become. We will start by spending time exploring the concerns that brought you into counseling and will also explore your unique story and experiences from the past and present as we move towards your goals, hopes for the future, and change.

My approach to therapy is both holistic and integrative with consideration of all parts of you, including the biological, psychological, social, relational, and spiritual. I also approach therapy from a systemic perspective and with an attachment lens that considers the profound influence our relationships have on our lives and our well-being. While our greatest suffering often occurs in relationships with others, our greatest healing is also often experienced in the context of relationships, and we will explore this impact together. As a trauma-informed therapist, our work together may involve processing the experiences that have deeply affected you; at your pace, we’ll address the complex realities of those experiences and seek healing, deeper resilience, and a felt sense of safety. During our time together, I may draw from several theories and interventions, such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, attachment, neurobiology, mindfulness, expressive arts therapy, sand tray therapy, the Gottman Method, and Internal Family Systems.

Formal Education and Training

I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy from George Fox University. My clinical training has included couple and family therapy, play therapy, interpersonal neurobiology of trauma, race and trauma, Emotionally Focused Therapy, human sexuality, group therapy, career counseling, addictions, spiritual and clinical praxis, psychopathology and appraisal, and human growth and development. I have also received additional training in The Gottman Method, suicide assessment and prevention, and Internal Family Systems. As I work towards becoming a registered associate, I am gaining direct clinical experience through practicum and internship prior to graduation.

Behind my pursuit of counseling, I bring nearly a decade of experience working in education and non-profit ministry spaces. For several years as an English Language Arts classroom teacher, I worked closely with adolescents and their families during critical years of their development and growth; while much of my work emphasized academic support and resourcing, the heartbeat of my work was also caring for my students’ emotional, mental, and relational well-being.

After teaching, I transitioned into a non-profit leadership role and began working in spaces of addiction and recovery; trauma; and community development in marginalized areas. I gained experience in organizational and leadership development; non-profit management; and operations. The primary focus of my work, however, centered around supporting the personal and professional development of ministry leaders and staff, which included processing issues of burnout, life transitions, grief, relationship problems, identity, mental health crises, vocational discernment, and leadership challenges. My continued work within the non-profit sector has involved managing leadership and board development programs aimed at supporting organizational health through leadership cohorts, trainings, and coaching opportunities.

Ultimately, these experiences have led me to the pursuit of counseling, where I feel my best and most meaningful contribution is walking alongside others in their journey towards healing and wholeness.
